Oliver Wille was born in Berlin and studied at several universities in Germany (Berlin and Cologne) and USA (Indiana University and New England Conservatory). As a co-founder of the international acclaimed Kuss-Quartet he started a very active chamber music life at fairly young age. Among his teachers were Eberhard Feltz, Christoph Poppen, Mauricio Fuks, Walter Levin, members of Cleveland and Alban Berg Quartet, as well as György Kurtág and Ferenc Rados.
After winning the German Music Competition and the prestigeous “Premio Borciani“ in 2002, as well as being chosen from the ECHO (European Concert Hall Organisation) in 2003, the ensemble performs on main concert stages worldwide, such as London Wigmore Hall, New York Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam or Berlin Philharmonie and they appear regularely at international festivals such as Edinburgh, Rheingau or Schubertiade Schwarzenberg. Apart from traditional concert forms they get special attention for their series “KussPlus“ in Berlins night clubs and their collaboration with the actor Udo Samel. Oliver has played in several orchestra projects with the Orchester der Deutschen Oper Berlin under Christian Thielemann, Sinfonieorchester des Hessischen Rundfunks Frankfurt, Camerata Bern or Mahler Chamber Orchestra under Claudio Abbado, Kent Nagano, Daniel Harding and Andris Nelsons.
An important part of his life became teaching. Already while studying he was assisting Prof. Mauricio Fuks and returned to Indiana University as his replacement twice (2007 & 2013) since. During the academic year 2010/11 he was leading the Graduate Quartet Studies of Musikakademie Basel together with Walter Levin and held a chamber music teaching position in Karlsruhe, Germany. He got appointed as a chamber music professor at the University for Music, Drama & Media Hannover in October 2011, teaching an international quartet class as well as working with individual students of the school.
Many special student chamber concert projects are part of his educational program, he is connected to international masterclasses such as ProQuartet Paris, International Concert Working Weeks Goslar, Scuola di Musica de Fiesole or the Lake District Summer School. Since summer 2014 he serves as artistic director of the International Summer Academy of Lower Saxony in Germany. In October 2014 he got appointed as “International Chair in Violin“ at the Birmingham Conservatory, UK, were he teaches a violin classes and formes a string quartet academy.
Oliver writes program notes and CD booklets and holds lecture recitals such as the “Explica“ series of the Kuss Quartet in Hamburg, Hannover and Heidelberg. Since 2012 he serves as the vize president and artistic advisor of the Chamber Music Society Hannover, further he works as artistic director at a new string quartet festival in Frankfurt. Recently he became the director of Germany oldest Chamber Music Festival “Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker“, where he will be in charge from 2016.
The president of German Music Competition appointed Oliver as part of the advisory council. From 2015 he will serve as a jury member of the competition.
